I was asked the other day about whether I would stock some mainstream lager in the brewery bar. It was an immediate “Nope” and then I was asked about keeping some under the counter. I think i thought on it for maybe 2 seconds and then replied in the negative too.
My first reaction was if its under the bar nobody is going to know its there to buy and then, why would I?! As a brewer I think we make some great products and if the full on flavour of the big IPAs or the toasty stouts aren’t for you then there’s been a plethora of light session ales. Added to that we’ve got lagers and some great guests on the keg taps and now I’m gradually filling up the bottle fridge with craft beers. You can get your big brand lagers any place, we’ve plenty of great stuff to try and you may just hit upon a new favourite. Then there’s always the ciders and spirits too.
Beer snobbery? Maybe, but I’m a great believer in small businesses producing from the heart.
